Purex Crystals Review and Coupon

For those of you that know me, you know that I make my own laundry detergent and have used vinegar for my fabric softener for quite some time. For those of you that don't know me, let me explain why I started using vinegar instead of fabric softeners.

Fabric softener actually has some harmful effects to not only your clothes, but your washing machine and dryer as well! Let's start with how many fabric softeners are dangerous for you! Check out the list below of chemicals commonly found in fabric softners and what World-Wire.com has to say about their effects.

  • Benzyl acetate: Linked to pancreatic cancer
  • Benzyl Alcohol: Upper respiratory tract irritant
  • Ethanol: On the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Hazardous Waste list and can cause central nervous system disorders
  • A-Terpineol: Can cause respiratory problems, including fatal edema, and central nervous system damage
  • Ethyl Acetate: A narcotic on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list
  • Camphor: Causes central nervous system disorders
  • Chloroform: Neurotoxic, anesthetic and carcinogenic
  • Linalool: A narcotic that causes central nervous system disorders
  • Pentane: A chemical known to be harmful if inhaled
Pretty shocking huh? Although I quit using fabric softner due to my youngest son's sensory issues, I quickly realized that my oldest two children's allergies, eczema, and asthma greatly improved!

You may wonder, how are they bad for my washing machine and dryer? Well, in washing machines, softener seperates the dirt and creates a sludge that can destroy your washing machine. In dryers, the oily residue of softeners is left on the lint trap and throughout the exhaust system of the dryer. This reduces the effectiveness of your clothes dryer, resulting in it having to work harder which in turn results in it's mechanical parts failing. Due to the oily residue attracting lint, it's also a fire hazard as well!

If you're still not convinced, let's talk about your towels. Isn't it an incredible feeling to step out of the shower, grab a towel and it quickly soak up the water? Isn't it horrible when there is a spill and you grab a towel to clean it up, only to realize the towel isn't absorbing the water but rather pushing it around? Why is that? Well, it's .........you guessed it......fabric softener. You see, those same oils that make your clothes feel softer and fight against static electricity also prevent the clothing articles from properly absorbing liquid.

So, I switched to vinegar. Yet, even though vinegar does it jobs, it does not leave a pleasant scent lingering on the products. We all know how nice it is to crawl into bed, pull the covers up, and drift to sleep in the smell of freshly laundered and scented sheets. Yet, then again, that scent usually disappears pretty quick. So, I stuck with vinegar.

UNTIL NOW!!!

As a Purex Insider, Purex sent me a sample bottle of Purex Crystals to try. My first thought at looking at the small bottle was, "Great! That's enough to do 2 loads." I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to find out I was very wrong! The Purex Crystals takes a very very small amount.

Most fabric softeners have one of a few options to use. You can pour it in a ball and then when you attempt to dry the clothes hope the ball doesn't pour water all over you and your clothes. You can put it in the center dispenser your washing machine may have and hope it doesn't leave spots on your clothes. Or, you can toss a sheet in the dryer. Of course, all of these options result in the before mentioned issues and risks.

With Purex Crystals, you merely add them to the wash at the beginning of the cycle when you put in your other regular detergent. Your clothes come out infused with a heavenly scent.

Purex Crystals has none of the oils that pose the risks mentioned above. Purex Crystals won't coat your towels preventing them from absorbing water. Purex Crystals isn't full of chemicals that pose health issues. Purex Crystals won't cause harm to your clothes dryer and washing machine with oils that create sludge. The ingredients are Sucrose (Sugar), Bentonite (Clay), Peg Disterate (Blending Agent), Fragrance, Sanolin Blue (Colorant).

Wow! I have a fan?? And a biggest fan at that?? Awesome!

As for vinegar, once it dries it has no odor at all. I use it to clean all kinds of stuff at home!

I understand about trying to make ends meet. Although I've been disabled since 2003, I don't draw disability. We live solely on my husbands income, which is greatly decreasing due to the economy. So, we have to do all we can.

Thanks for your compliments. They made my day!!
